It’s September, so it’s perfect that temperatures this week are reach the hundreds here in Southern California. Ok, not really. I’m still dreaming of buttery, leather pants, cozy knit sweaters and a stupidly awesome amount of layers. I’m thinking Free People Fall Lookbook while the weather is just tempting me to quit my job and become a mermaid. I’m trying to find a compromise because I just don’t think the whole mermaid gig is really going to work out. This look is just that — a fashion compromise. A flowy maxi with some sliders is perfect for every day of summer while a wool, wide-brim hat and all black is just so appropriate for the cooler months. If this is the outcome, we’re ok with compromising. For now at least.

It’s the weekend, and I’m topping it off with the perfect white tee and jeans. It’s basic and carefree with just enough added personality to avoid being overly basic. This outfit is ready for anything that comes my way be it sushi with my main gals or a night at #paulsforever. I’m set for a carefree, California weekend.

Summer Meets Fall

IMG_4559 IMG_4561 IMG_4563 IMG_4565 IMG_4569 IMG_4576 IMG_4578 IMG_4579 IMG_4580

I love this outfit; the boho, crocheted duster screams summer and is perfectly juxtaposed by the all black that screams fall. It’s the perfect outfit for this transitory period from summer to fall fashion. It can be hard to find that balance, and I think this outfit does just that.

I love leather. It’s got to be one of my favorite materials. It can take something simple and turn it into something magical. It’s that stand out fabric that doesn’t have to try that hard. It takes little accessorizing or thinking about what to wear with it because leather and a simple tee is all you need to be a model off duty. And boy do I miss it. It’s hot hot hot here in California, but I’m dreaming of cozying up to my leather pieces. So I decided to bust them out before the weather has cool and give them a spin that’ll work with the heat. Pairing a boho-feeling, white blouse with my leather mini and some slip-ons creates a perfect ensemble for this time of fashion transition.

One for the Money

There’s nothing better than that throw-it-on-and-go piece; it’s effortless, minimal and requires little thinking, which is great for those late nights that meet early mornings. Sometimes that minimal vibe is exactly what I need. But most of the time, I’m looking for a little something more. That’s the best part about that perfect jumpsuit – it can be just what you want it to. Keep it simple or add layers and accessories to get that stand-out style. Nothing beats versatility when you’re a fashion addict.

These pants though; what a seriously good Forever 21 find. Soft, silky material, comfy fit, and an up-and-coming pant trend, these babies have everything I could ask for and more in something that covers my gams. I’m obsessed and hopefully you are too; this is the first feature of these pants and Manic and definitely not the last. Don’t worry – variations and creativity to come.

Minimal Mix

IMG_4319IMG_4327IMG_4316IMG_4329IMG_4318IMG_4312IMG_4330 IMG_4313IMG_4335IMG_4326IMG_4324IMG_4331 IMG_4332 IMG_4334

Although we’re huge fans of mixing prints, we understand that this trend can be a bit intimidating. It starts with not know where to start. Do these compliment each other? Are the color schemes right? Then it might turn into worrying about the result of these mixed patterns. Do I really want to draw this much attention? Is this an appropriate time to wear this? And the battle within your head ensues in full force. If you’re not looking to have a fight with yourself today but still want to try this trend that’s flying off the shelves, then maybe we’ve hit in on the hit for you.  Rather than mixing a leopard print blouse with some stripped pants or an acid-wash skirt, why not hang low and mix that Print of your shoes with whatever else is patterned and pretty.

Shades of Grey

greymontageWhat we’re loving at the moment is grey, grey, and more grey! Monochrome has never made me so proud as when I see it presented this way. If grey is the color of the wise, it is easy to see why, it is clean, chic, and so very sophisticated. The best part is, this trend is ready to be flaunted immediately and will continue to carry over into fall effortlessly.  We see Mulberry’s interpretation with a grey on grey pattern for their Spring 2014 RTW line.

As we journey into pre-fall we see this gem from Ralph Lauren.

Before we know it Autumn will be upon us and we can continue to rock our all grey ensembles in thicker fabrications and knits with outfits inspired by Tory Burch and Haider Ackerman. (Notice Tory’s mixing of textures and sheen–love!)

Your bathing suit isn’t just for splashing around in

Swim suits are great. But honestly, We fall in love with those one-of-a-kind, expensive ones and get sad when they’re worn only a few times in the summer months. So, we had a revelation. Why? They’re so pretty they deserve more than just being shown off pool side for a couple hours. The alternative to this dilemma? With a little subtraction here and addition there, we’ve created 4 outfits using swimwear as oh so much more than just that.

Anything but Basic

There’s something about statement, bold prints that I just can’t get away from. I’m constantly thinking ‘buy more basics’ when shopping online or skipping through the mall. But I can’t help myself; I guess I’m just not a basic bitch. I love mixing prints and layering pieces over pieces over pieces. I love things like a printed, shift dress, like this one from Soft Joie. It’s perfect enough to stand alone. But ‘one is the loneliest number,’ so why wear one piece of clothing when you could wear two or three or four. If I’m going to go basic, it still has to have pizazz. I’m thinking a monochromatic look with bold shapes or an overdose of accessories or those layers I mentioned before.
