One for the Money

There’s nothing better than that throw-it-on-and-go piece; it’s effortless, minimal and requires little thinking, which is great for those late nights that meet early mornings. Sometimes that minimal vibe is exactly what I need. But most of the time, I’m looking for a little something more. That’s the best part about that perfect jumpsuit – it can be just what you want it to. Keep it simple or add layers and accessories to get that stand-out style. Nothing beats versatility when you’re a fashion addict.

Panama and Prints in Palm Springs

IMG_4386 IMG_4365IMG_4367IMG_4372IMG_4380IMG_4373IMG_4375IMG_4381IMG_4382IMG_4393 IMG_4384IMG_4389IMG_4396IMG_4398IMG_4391IMG_4400

A wide-brim, panama hat and silky, Hawaiian printed dress seemed like the perfect combination for a little getaway to Palm Springs. And functional, surprisingly. The brim of the hat shades my face from the suns harsh rays while the dresses thin material is cool enough for the scorching, desert heat. Paired with my new Forever 21 booties (yes, Forever. They just look so much more designer than that), it’s the perfect outfit for a night under the stars and California palm trees.

Anything but Basic

There’s something about statement, bold prints that I just can’t get away from. I’m constantly thinking ‘buy more basics’ when shopping online or skipping through the mall. But I can’t help myself; I guess I’m just not a basic bitch. I love mixing prints and layering pieces over pieces over pieces. I love things like a printed, shift dress, like this one from Soft Joie. It’s perfect enough to stand alone. But ‘one is the loneliest number,’ so why wear one piece of clothing when you could wear two or three or four. If I’m going to go basic, it still has to have pizazz. I’m thinking a monochromatic look with bold shapes or an overdose of accessories or those layers I mentioned before.

Looking back on those private school uniforms give me the giggles. At that time, it was anything but funny: the knee length skirts, awkwardly pleated shorts (that, with the right pieces, I honestly feel really could have been statement making), and the constant having to tuck in my shirt (not a chic half tuck either.) At those awkward stages of my life, it was anything but a fashionista in the making. I fell in love with this dress the instant I saw it. Creative hemlines mixed with a simple shape and color drew me in. It reminds me of days in those plaid skirts and Dr. Marten’s that could have been so cool with some freedom and allowed creativity. So, today I’m channeling my past and making uniform wear chic with converse, a fringed, statement necklace, and a bad-ass pair of golden sunnies that reflect that sun.

The Denim Skirt Rises Again

IMG_4079

Crop tops and overalls galore. We’re sure you’ve noticed the resurgence of the 90’s in all things fashion recently. The best part about this blast from the past? It’s new and updated with a chic, modern spin on each and every trend. And although there are some things that should stay in the past, fashionistas everywhere are doing a fab job in breathing new life into old trend. You might feel like crop tops and overalls are here to stay but are old news. That’s why our focus today is on a trend that’s resurfacing in the fashion world that you probably wished had stayed in the past – the denim skirt. Yup, it’s here again! But not what you’re thinking. We don’t mean those old, denim mini skirts from Abercrombie & Fitch with the weird fading on the front and back or with that weird, lace-up closure that belongs on your shoes in place of a fly and zipper. We’re talking about denim skirts in a whole new way: a-line silhouettes to flatter every body type, midi-length, chambray beauties that scream chic, and denim skirts with flounces or folds. The denim skirt has been reborn and we love it. It’s the perfect piece for summer when the sun is shinning hot, hot, hot! I chose this perfect, acid-washed number from ASOS. It’s mini but has somewhat of an A-line silhouette to ensure it’s beyond 90’s. I love the high waistline that allows me to still rock the crop top. And the fading of the fabric has me falling in love. Pair it with Birkenstocks for a relaxing day in the sun or add booties or chunky heels to dress it up for my night out, this skirt is ready to help me take on the summer.

Stripes of Life

unnamed (20)

I saw this little striped number while I was working at Nordstrom ,and the rest is history; that baby became mine. and I was obsessed. It was simple, yet different. It was a piece I instantly fell in love with for both it’s patten and shape. I saw endless possibilities for it as a staple in both my summer and fall/winter wardrobes. So here it is for summer; at least one of the many ways I’ll be wearing it this summer. I took what could be seen as simple and took it up a notch with a great, moto-inspired vest and statement body chain then finished it off with a killer combination of holographic, pointed-toe shoes and floral socks.

LACOSTE AND LINEN

IMG_4021

I’M NOT THE BIGGEST FAN OF LACOSTE. I DON’T KNOW IF ITS BECAUSE POLOS AS EVERYDAY WEAR FREAK ME OUT OR THAT I JUST DON’T HAVE MUCH OF THAT PREPPY SPIRIT AS FAR AS MY FASHION IS CONCERNED. WHATEVER IT MAY BE, I HAD TO MAKE AN EXCEPTION FOR THIS LACOSTE SWEATER, AS I CAME ACROSS IT IN A GOODWILL. I HAD SO MANY VISIONS FOR IT. I DREAMT OF THIS GORGEOUS PIECE PAIRED WITH A FABULOUS PAIRED OF RIPPED, TATTERED AND TORN HIGH-WAISTED BOYFRIEND JEANS OR WITH THE PERFECT PAIR OF SATIN JOGGERS.  IT’S JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF PREPPY MEETS VINTAGE FOR IT TO BE A GOOD ADDITION TO MY CLOSET; IT ISN’T ONE OF THOSE ITEMS I “NEED” THAT ENDS UP SITTING THERE COLLECTING DUST. RATHER THAN JEANS OR JOGGERS, I PAIRED THIS LITTLE, CREAM SWEATER WITH A PINK, LINEN DRAWSTRING SKIRT AND MY GO-TO BIRKENSTOCKS. IT’S WARM HERE IN SUNNY SOUTHER CALIFORNIA, BUT THE SWEATER IS CROPPED AND LINEN LIGHT KEEPING ME COOL ON THIS GORGEOUS, BLUE-SKIES ONLY DAY.

Burning Bright

IMG_3956

With this being my first outfit post since back from London, you shouldn’t be surprised at all by the airy, white blouse and denim. After all, I am back in stereotypical, sunny Southern California, and to say it is sunny would be an incredibly large understatement. I think Alicia Keyes might say this town is on fire. With my car clocking in the weather at 100 degrees, it almost does feel like I’m strolling within an inferno with the chances of it consuming me at any minute. The craziest part? Tomorrow is supposed to be hotter. With that being said, I chose a perfect, loose blouse that still has some three-quarter sleeves, but it’s so breathable and fresh. I love how feminine it is, but the looseness of the blouse gives it that this-is-my-bofriend’s-shirt look that creates a carefree look. The juxtapose is perfection, and this is one of those shirts I’m going to be able to wear all year long. To dress down this somewhat frilly blouse, I added some frayed denim shorts and, of course, my beloved leopard Birkenstocks. Wether or not you like them, they are perfection in my eyes and at the end of the day that’s all that really matters. I threw on some fiery, orange lipstick to match the heat and ta-da, an outfit ready to keep me cool without abandoning all my love of fashion.
